Day 1 - Arrival in Negombo
Your tour begins in Negombo, a coastal town located just north of Colombo and close to the international airport. Known for its sandy beaches and bustling fishing community, Negombo offers a relaxing start to your journey. The town’s Dutch-era canals, colonial churches, and vibrant fish markets provide a glimpse into its rich maritime heritage. In the evening, you can enjoy the sea breeze and fresh seafood at a beachside restaurant.
Day 2 - Negombo to Anuradhapura
From the coast, travel inland to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first ancient capital and a sacred city for Buddhists. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to majestic stupas, towering Buddha statues, and the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, believed to have been grown from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. The serene atmosphere and impressive ruins reflect the spiritual and architectural achievements of Sri Lanka’s ancient civilization.
Day 3 - Anuradhapura to Mihintale and Overnight Stay
Just outside Anuradhapura lies Mihintale, a forested hill that is regarded as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The site’s rock stairways, ancient stupas, and shrines are set amid breathtaking natural surroundings. The climb to the summit rewards you with panoramic views of the surrounding plains. Mihintale offers a peaceful and inspiring experience, steeped in history and legend.
Day 4 - Anuradhapura to Trincomalee
Heading east, you arrive in Trincomalee, a historic port city known for its natural harbor and beautiful beaches. Trincomalee’s charm lies in its blend of history, culture, and coastal scenery. You can visit the famous Koneswaram Temple perched atop Swami Rock, with views over the ocean, or explore Fort Frederick and its colonial remnants. The city’s beaches, such as Uppuveli and Nilaveli, invite you to unwind by the turquoise sea.
Day 5 - Trincomalee and Pigeon Island
Your day in Trincomalee includes an excursion to Pigeon Island National Park, a marine sanctuary known for its coral reefs and colorful marine life. A short boat ride takes you to this small island, where you can snorkel in crystal-clear waters and encounter tropical fish, turtles, and vibrant coral gardens. The rest of the day can be spent enjoying the relaxed coastal atmosphere.
Day 6 - Trincomalee to Habarana
Travel to Habarana, nestled in Sri Lanka’s cultural heartland. This quiet village is the perfect base for nature enthusiasts, offering opportunities for an elephant safari or a peaceful walk around forested lakes.
Day 7 - Habarana to Matale and Kandy
En route to Kandy, stop at Matale’s spice gardens to discover the secrets of Sri Lanka’s spices. In Kandy, a city of rich culture and natural beauty, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, stroll along Kandy Lake, and take in the charm of this UNESCO World Heritage City.
Day 8 - Kandy to Hatton
Climb into the hill country, arriving in Hatton, surrounded by tea plantations and mist-covered peaks. Visit a tea factory to see how Ceylon tea is made and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of this lesser-known gem of tea country.
Day 9 - Hatton to Kithulgala (White Water Rafting Adventure)
Today, experience an adrenaline rush at Kithulgala, one of Sri Lanka’s top spots for adventure sports. Navigate the rapids of the Kelani River on an exhilarating white-water rafting expedition, passing lush jungle and rocky gorges. You can also explore jungle trails, hidden waterfalls, or take a dip in natural rock pools. After your adventure, continue southward.
Day 10 - Kithulgala to Udawalawe
Descend to the southern plains and visit Udawalawe National Park, famous for its elephants. A thrilling jeep safari offers the chance to see elephants, buffalo, deer, crocodiles, and a variety of birds in their natural habitat.
Day 11 - Udawalawe to Mirissa and Departure
End your journey at the laid-back beach town of Mirissa, where golden sands and palm-lined shores invite relaxation. Depending on your departure time, you may have the option to visit Galle Fort or enjoy a final stroll along the beach before heading to the airport in Colombo, filled with unforgettable memories of Sri Lanka.
